If happening when opening a program that is not part of Microsoft Windows, make sure you're running the latest version of the program and that any patches for the program have been downloaded. The latest software updates are located on the developer's website.

Revert Windows back to an earlier copy

If this is a problem that recently started occurring, try restoring an earlier copy of Windows. In some situations, a changed setting or installation setting may have caused the computer to generate this error.

If you're unable to get into Windows to revert to an earlier copy, try booting the computer into Safe Mode.

Uninstall and reinstall program

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  3. Open the folder for the username you're using in Windows.

Install Windows updates

Make sure your computer has all the latest Windows updates.

Update associated drivers
