I'm looking at a Lagun FTV-2S 3 axis CNC knee mill.
What is meant by 'Anilam 1100M conversational control'?
    Thanks

Anilam is the company that makes the control. I run a Sharp knee mill with a Aniliam 3000M control. I'm not familiar with the 1100M or sure what the difference is. I'm guessing it's an older version or a version with less features I know the 6000M control comes with more features.
The mill I run is good for one-off stuff. There are a few things that are designed poorly but overall I like the control. I know Mr. Thomas doesn't Aniliam because of their service but I haven't had any problems so I can't give first-hand knowledge.

In order to make a simple program the control will ask a series of questions. You just fill in the blanks and the control creates the program.
I've used that control before and I think you'll like it.

Here's the Anilam web site Theres no mention of the 1100M control so you might want to ask them if they still support it.
On the mill I use, there are lots of canned cycles where you fill in the blanks. For example, for a rectangular pocket cycle you would fill in X-center Y-center, length, width, depth, depth of cut, z-starting point, amount of material to leave for finish, corner radius, and feeds. The control will take care of the rest.
You can also write your own code it's not real G-code, they use rapid, line & arc instead of GOO, G01, & G02. You can also use it like a manual mill by telling to feed to such and such a point or you can disengage the quill and tell the machine to rapid to a point and then do your drilling operations manually.
If you get the mill, feel free to e-mail me with questions. I imagine the controls are similar enough that I could answer them. If you decide to pass I may be interested.

It's an easy control to learn and quick to program. It can also convert an existing G-code program to Anilam.

Pretty Simple Control. Limited Memory- 1 megabyte i think. Not too hard to use once you learn the little tricks. Conversational is quite easy. I used CAM mostly.

More memory must be an option. We have thousands of programs loaded and have not had a problem yet.

The 1100 was black & white screen and I think a little less memory..I recall the 3300's being a little faster on the gittyup when pushing buttons. If the machine/control is in good shape you can do quite a lot with it. If you're not ready for CAM programming you can do most everything if you learn the machines geometry calculator. Once you figure it out laying out 2-d stuff is a snap.

Thanks so much for the replies. I'm going to look at it under power in a couple of days with cash in hand and a trailer on the back of my truck.
Anything special I need to look for?
Any tests I can perform while I'm there?
    Thanks

Make sure all the function keys (under the screen) work..they're the first thing (and most often) to bomb out. Make sure all the buttons work, for that matter. Make sure the feedrate overide knob isn't falling off. Look under the servos and look at the drive belts; make sure they're in decent shape. Backlash is easily adjustable on these so that's not such a big deal.

Well we went to look at it and what a waste of time. We drove 707 miles to see it and they could not even power anything up. They had burned up the vari-speed drive belt and had lost some of the parts.
What does a guy have to do to avoid wasting time like we did in looking for a machine?
